About me
Marteki Martey, DNP, ACNPC AG, ACCNS AG, is an acute care nurse practitioner at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. She works with patients admitted for stem cell transplant and cellular immunotherapy, helping them navigate daily treatments and what to expect while they are in the hospital. She focuses on straightforward explanations and dependable, personalized support, so patients feel informed, heard, and guided throughout their stay.
As your partner during your inpatient stay, Marteki takes time to learn what matters most to you, reviews your transplant or immunotherapy course, and walks through the day’s plan, such as medications, symptom management, lab results, and upcoming tests or procedures. She invites questions so you know what is happening and why. She focuses on your day-to-day priorities in the hospital, including symptom relief, complication prevention, and a safe transition home. She works closely with nurses, pharmacists, social workers, dietitians, case managers, and rehabilitation specialists. Together, they help you feel more confident, supported, and better prepared for each day in the hospital.
Philosophy of Care
Marteki’s philosophy is rooted in empathy, respect and straightforward communication. Being hospitalized for a stem cell transplant or cellular immunotherapy can bring stress and worry. Her goal is to provide practical guidance and reassurance, help you stay informed, and support your comfort throughout your time in the hospital. She explains what is happening in plain language and pauses often so you can ask questions.
She takes time to learn your priorities, concerns, and who you want involved in decisions. Working with the physician-led team, she helps carry out your daily inpatient plan (including treatments, monitoring, and tests) in a way that fits your goals. She also encourages you to share new symptoms as soon as you notice them so she can respond quickly.
Marteki recognizes that therapy affects more than the body. It can change your routines, your energy, and your sense of control. She encourages these conversations because they matter for healing. She works with you to find practical ways to help you feel supported day to day, whether that involves adjusting treatment, connecting you with resources, or taking time to talk through what you are experiencing.
Training & Experience
Marteki’s path into advanced practice nursing is shaped by experience in oncology, immunotherapy, cardiology, trauma, and critical care. She earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice from the University of Maryland School of Nursing, with a focus on acute care, clinical leadership, and quality improvement. While at the National Institutes of Health, she was a bedside nurse who helped keep treatment plans on track and ensure research protocols were followed.
She is an active member of the Oncology Nursing Society, the American Association of Critical Care Nurses, Sigma Theta Tau International, and the Nurse Practitioner Association of Maryland. Staying involved with these organizations helps her keep up with current standards and new evidence, bringing best practices to the bedside.
